I’m not one to shy away from wearing my shell cordovan just because of some foul weather. If that were the case, I’d never get a chance to wear them this winter.
As long as you have the most important tool in any shoe care kit, you should be good to go.
For what it’s worth, I use a tiny bit of neutral Venetian Shoe Cream on my shoes and boots maybe once every 8 months or so. I do however hit them with the boot brush at least once a day, and usually twice.
